Construction Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

  • 4WardWA Development West Africa (4WardWA) provides high-quality water services through kiosks, Pump Insurance (PiN), household and business connections, and packaged water services for wholesale, retail, and individual consumption.

  • Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Construction Technician will provide technical engineering support and construction trades-related work including responsibility for inspection of small to moderately complex construction projects as defined by the Operations Manager in accordance with 4Ward guidelines and policies. S/He will lead field workers, contract masons, and provide guidance to other staff designated to assist with construction works, inspection and evaluation.

  • S/He will be required to ensure construction and civil works constructed conform to 4Ward standards and also support the Operations Supervisor in ongoing and new projects

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise local artisans to construct aprons, standpipes, tower platforms and permanent concrete structures and other assigned WASH facilities.

  • Assess construction materials to determine their suitability for the work and determine the appropriate mix ratio used for works in the field.

  • Facilitate the installation of kiosk structures and erecting of steel tower structures.

  • Build the capacity of local artisans such as masons and maintenance teams through training and coaching.

  • Ensure that required quantities of materials such as HDPE pipes and fittings requested are utilized on the field and the remaining returned to stores.

  • Facilitate communication between Supervisor and clients or institutions to ensure that construction targets are met.

  • Support in the implementation of innovative designs and technologies which will be introduced.

  • Ensure implementation of Audit and Risk Assessment recommendations in all projects and their impact within operational areas.

  • Facilitate, monitor, and report (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually) on construction activities implemented.

  • Ensure construction works are done in a safe, timely, and sustainable manner.

  • Any other constructional duties at the worksite

QUALIFICATIONS

Education***

Minimum qualification of BSc/HND in Construction Management Technology, Engineering, Operations, or any relevant field.

At least experience amounting to three (3) years of full-time work in engineering, construction, materials inspection and testing, or building construction trades.

REPORTING

The Construction Technician will report to the Operations Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment - Office – Standard Office Environment; Must live in Daboase, Takoradi, and surrounding areas.

Physical Demands - Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day. The total working hours in a week is 40 hours. Should work be done during evenings and weekends, the SDO will be compensated with an equal amount of time off.

Travel Requirements: Some travel is required for this role.
