Access 1.2 Pump

DESIGNED TO BENEFIT ALL PEOPLE IN NEED OF AFFORDABLE ACCESS TO SAFE WATER.

The design promotes an understandable technology and the utilization of commonly available materials (adaptable to local supply) as well as the training of local technicians for its production and installation. The pump can quickly replace damaged hand pumps that are blocking access to viable boreholes. In the Access design, the traditional O-ring has been replaced with a “proximity bushing” fabricated of a high tech resilient material with a very low coefficient of friction. The pump utilizes common, locally available PVC pipe for the suspension main and riser pipes thus avoiding the difficult logistics required in transporting the steel risers and pump rods required for traditional hand pumps. The cost of the Access 1.2 is much lower than traditional hand pumps, allowing maximum utilization of available financial resources. The robust nature of the invention, combined with raw material accessibility and low cost, represents a viable opportunity for personal well ownership in areas of greatest need.

The invention refers to a water pump that utilizes commonly available materials in manufacturing and installation, requires no electrical means to fabricate or actuate, achieves significant longevity through simplification and the elimination of traditional wear components, and is of compact dimensions enabling water recovery from a broad range of existing well casings. The invention is principally comprised of three cylinders, two valves, and a proximity seal. The lower most outer casing, or “pressure” cylinder (7), is fitted with a foot valve at the end (11), and is separated from the upper most outer casing, or “guide” cylinder (5), by a “proximity seal” (16) near the housing’s midpoint. This assembly is suspended from the surface by continuous connections of “suspension” pipe (1). A movable “plunger” assembly (21) is located inside the two outer cylinders (5,7) and is fitted with a check valve at the lower end (20). This plunger (21) passes between the pressure cylinder (7) and the guide cylinder (5) through the center of the proximity seal (16). The plunger (21) is independently suspended from the surface by means of a separate and continuous connection of smaller diameter “riser” pipes (2). Upon the insertion of the invention in a water source, the raising and lowering of the riser pipe (2) and connected plunger assembly (21), results in the activation of the pumping means. Water is raised by the effective generation of a low-pressure environment created on the upstroke of the plunger assembly (21), which precipitates the invasion of fluid from the surroundings into the pressure cylinder (7), to a high-pressure environment on the down stroke portion of the cycle, resulting in the now captured fluid exiting the pressurized cylinder (7) through the hollow interior of the plunger assembly (21) and riser pipes (2).
