ORGANIZATION Summary

4Ward Development West Africa (4WardWA), formerly known as Access Development is a well-established Safe Water Enterprise (SWE) with business subsidiaries in Ghana and Uganda that provide safe water services at a District-Wide Scale. With over a decade experience in providing safe water to more than 600,000 people through 2,000 water points across Africa by 2006, our goal is to exceed the expectations of rural and peri-urban customers by consistently delivering high-quality water. We pioneered the implementation of an innovative water system with our Numa model together with owners, Water4 (a Non-profit organization). 4Ward WA, a subsidiary of Water4 is a wholly owned for-profit Subsidiaries of Water4, Inc.

The 4WardWA suite of water solutions is designed to provide safe water tailored to consumer demand, including: hand-pumps with professional management, public retail points, and private water connections for households, schools, clinics, and businesses.

4WardWA has current operations in the Wassa East district, Western region, Ghana, where we have provided the entire district with access to safe water and adjourning communities in the Komenda, Edna-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal. This is in partnership with Water4, The Dutch Government (RVO), Hilton Foundation, Wassa East District Assembly, and many other partners. 4WardWA is scaling up its operations in Upper West and Savanna Regions in 2022 in partnership Water4, Helmsley Trust Foundation and Global Communities, with more partners to come as part of our strategy to provide three districts in these regions with safe water services.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the General Manager, the Sales and Marketing Officer (SMO) will be responsible for the sales performance of project communities. The SMO will manage NUMA vendors to help them meet their set sales targets and increase now connection sign-ups and water consumption levels of existing customers. The SMO will be an advocate for all NUMA service and activities.

Additionally, the SMO will develop business opportunities by selling to new customers and identifying other private contracts in line with the scope of work of 4Ward WA.

The SMO will report to the General Manager for North East Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement sales strategies and activities in line with the broad sales strategy of 4Ward WA.

  • Drive sales by increasing the number of customers (Nows) and overall consumption

  • Provide support and training to vendors to effectively increase their sales of NUMA water and expand their overall income as business people in their communities

  • Develop plans to visit Now customers in ways that drive sales and improve customer satisfaction.

  • Participate in and contribute to research project initiated by 4Ward Ghana to improve service delivery

  • Provide community-based research leading to a better understanding of communities and customers

  • Engage with current, past and future NUMA customers to learn and encourage them to buy/buy more water

  • Make recommendations per learnings to the supervisor about ways to improve sales

  • Participate in or embark on community engagements/meetings, WaSH Trainings and promotional activities

  • Analyze data from water sales to identify immediate areas of need and implement appropriate strategies to address them

  • Make enquiry into disputes and issues pertaining to our work and start a resolution process or resolve where this is possible.

  • Liaise with other field staff and community volunteers in carrying out assigned duties

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Evolve market research to create value for customers and differentiate support that clearly map to vendor and customer satisfaction needs.

  • Facilitate in group and individual trainings/ meeting/ discussions for vendors, communities and customers

  • Progress reports and work plans timely prepared

qualification

Education***

  • Minimum qualification of first degree in sales and marketing, social sciences, community development or other related field.

Experience

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a customer service-related role, sales or community development

REPORTING

The SMO will report to and work closely with the General Manager, North East Operations. 

WORKING CONDITION

Work Environment: Office Standard Environment; Must live in and around Tamale or must be willing to relocate

Travel Requirements: Some travel is required for this role

This position is Located in Tamale, Northern, Ghana.
