TECHNICAL OFFICER-CONSTRUCTION/INSTALLATION (TO)
ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
4Ward Development West Africa (4WardWA), formerly known as Access Development is a well-established Safe Water Enterprise (SWE) with business subsidiaries in Ghana and Uganda that provide safe water services at a District-Wide Scale. With over a decade experience in providing safe water to more than 600,000 people through 2,000 water points across Africa by 2006, our goal is to exceed the expectations of rural and peri-urban customers by consistently delivering high-quality water. We pioneered the implementation of an innovative water system with our Numa model together with owners, Water4 (a Non-profit organization). 4Ward WA, a subsidiary of Water4 is a wholly owned for-profit Subsidiaries of Water4, Inc.
The 4WardWA suite of water solutions is designed to provide safe water tailored to consumer demand, including: hand-pumps with professional management, public retail points, and private water connections for households, schools, clinics, and businesses.
4WardWA has current operations in the Wassa East district, Western region, Ghana, where we have provided the entire district with access to safe water and adjourning communities in the Komenda, Edna-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal. This is in partnership with Water4, The Dutch Government (RVO), Hilton Foundation, Wassa East District Assembly, and many other partners. 4WardWA is scaling up its Construction in Upper West and Savanna Regions in 2022 in partnership Water4, Helmsley Trust Foundation and Global Communities, with more partners to come as part of our strategy to provide three districts in these regions with safe water services.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Officer–Construction/Installation, is responsible for ensuring the timely, cost-effective and efficient installation of all NUMA technologies. This position involves the handling of all aspects of the installation process, making sure quality standards and specifications are adhered to. The Officer will also be in charge of overseeing the technical assessment of all sites and/or locations for the installation of NUMA systems. The incumbent keeps records of all installations, installation materials (electrical & plumbing) and works within the installation budget. He or she prepares a time-bound strategic plan for the execution of all installations’ output/targets for the year. At this career level, the incumbent is generally competent in several Construction specialties and may be called on to coach or oversee the work of junior Construction staff. The Technical Officer – Installations will join the Construction Team and report to the Construction Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the assembling and roofing of prefabricated water kiosks.
Perform Solar and all other electrical installations as well as plumbing works on all NUMA systems.
Undertake periodic electrical troubleshooting and other structural maintenance works of all NUMA systems .
Keep inventory of all electrical materials and equipment and request restocking
Keep records of all installation plumbing materials for all NUMA systems.
Assist the Construction Officer to ensure that ALL installed NUMA systems conform to 4ward Development’s quality standards and specifications.
Ensure that well logs, GPS coordinates and photos are collected for all installations.
Participate in the planning of the weekly work schedule of the Construction Department and undertake any other assigned task.
Collaborate with other Departments to ensure that all installation targets/output are met within the schedule.
Ensure a seamless and smooth installation process of all NUMA technologies.
Participate in the development and implementation of a strategic plan to execute all installations cost-effectively and to ensure the judicious use of all installation materials.
Keep up to date with NUMA technological modifications and innovations.
KEY EXPECTED RESULTS
Time Management: Effectively manage cycle time in order not to exceed planned hours per installation. Complete all tasks promptly and accurately to meet scheduled targets within timelines, ensuring minimal rescheduled ratio.
Quality Assurance: Nothing but high-quality NUMA installations are required at all times, meeting all quality standards and specifications. Therefore, mistakes and tasks to be reworked are expected to reduce significantly if not eliminated.
Judicious Material Use: Responsible for making sure that all installation materials (electrical and plumbing) are used optimally and efficiently to avoid material waste.
Cost-effective installations: Manage the logistical and financial requirements of the installation process to avoid budget cost overruns and to ensure the viability of the process.
Report Writing: Document accurate installation activities and produce effective reports on a timely basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
First University Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
A Professional Electrical Certification (at least Tech III).
Experience:
Not less than three (3) years of experience working in a similar capacity; or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
REPORTING
The Facility Maintenance Officer will report to the Constructions manager of our Northern Construction
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment: Office – Field Office Environment; Must live in and around Wa or must be willing to relocate.
Travel Requirements: May be required to travel up to 90% of the normal schedule to Constructional/services communities. Should be able to ride a motorbike
Equivalent education, training and/or certification: may be substituted for experience and education shown above
Preferred skills
Knowledge of solar system installation will be an added advantage
Good IT background.
Proven experience in the installation of solar-powered systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good understanding of troubleshooting electrical problems and resolution of the problems
Strong knowledge/skills in plumbing
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of solar equipment software updates
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the workings of solar equipment/devices
