ORGANIZATION Summary

4Ward Development West Africa (4WardWA), formerly known as Access Development is a well-established Safe Water Enterprise (SWE) with business subsidiaries in Ghana and Uganda that provide safe water services at a District-Wide Scale. With over a decade experience in providing safe water to more than 600,000 people through 2,000 water points across Africa by 2006, our goal is to exceed the expectations of rural and peri-urban customers by consistently delivering high-quality water. We pioneered the implementation of an innovative water system with our Numa model together with owners, Water4 (a Non-profit organization). 4Ward WA, a subsidiary of Water4 is a wholly owned for-profit Subsidiaries of Water4, Inc.

The 4WardWA suite of water solutions is designed to provide safe water tailored to consumer demand, including: hand-pumps with professional management, public retail points, and private water connections for households, schools, clinics, and businesses.

4WardWA has current operations in the Wassa East district, Western region, Ghana, where we have provided the entire district with access to safe water and adjourning communities in the Komenda, Edna-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal. This is in partnership with Water4, The Dutch Government (RVO), Hilton Foundation, Wassa East District Assembly, and many other partners. 4WardWA is scaling up its operations in Upper West and Savanna Regions in 2022 in partnership Water4, Helmsley Trust Foundation and Global Communities, with more partners to come as part of our strategy to provide three districts in these regions with safe water services.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Officer – Drilling will be responsible for operating drilling equipment to create water wells, ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of groundwater.    This role requires technical expertise, physical stamina, and a commitment to delivering high-quality water well services. The Technical Officer – Drilling  will join the Constructions Team and report to the General Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drilling Operations:

    • Operate drilling machinery to create water wells according to project specifications.

    • Maintain and troubleshoot drilling equipment to ensure its safe and efficient operation.

    • Monitor drilling progress and adjust equipment as needed to meet project goals.

  2. Site Preparation:

    • Assess and select suitable drilling locations based on geological surveys and client requirements.

    • Prepare the drilling site, including the setup of drilling rigs and related equipment.

    • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations during site preparation.

  3. Well Development:

    • Conduct well development activities, such as cleaning, flushing, and purging, to enhance water yield and quality.

    • Install well screens, casings, and other necessary components as per industry standards.

  4. Quality Assurance:

    • Perform water quality testing to ensure the well water meets regulatory and client specifications.

    • Make necessary adjustments to the well design or operation to optimize water quality.

  5. Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including drilling logs, equipment maintenance, and safety reports.

    • Prepare reports for clients and regulatory authorities as required.

  6. Team Collaboration:

    • Coordinate with team members, including geologists, engineers, and technicians, to ensure project success.

    • Provide guidance and training to less experienced drillers or assistants.

  7. Compliance and Safety:

    • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to prevent accidents and injuries.

    • Stay updated on industry standards and best practices related to water well drilling

QUALIFICATION

Education***

  • First University Degree in Earth Science, Geology or equivalent

  • Valid water well drilling license or certification in accordance with local regulations.

EXPERIENCE

Not less than three (3) years of experience as a water well driller or working in a similar capacity with a strong track record of successful projects or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

REPORTING

The Technical Officer – Drilling will report to and work closely with the General Manager, North East Operations. 

WORKING CONDITION

Work Environment: Office – Field Office Environment; Must live in and around Tamale or must be willing to relocate

Travel Requirements May be required to travel up to 90% of the normal schedule to operational/services communities. Should be able to ride a motorbike
